First time doctor suggested to me to take gastric surgery in 2002. I was about 160Lbs down then now. At that time I did not know too much about that surgery. I did know that I do have diabetes, but doctor told I do not have one. All what I have to do is loose weight. Now I read a lot of different medical articles.

In one reading I read that gastric surgery helps to reduce sugar and keep sugar under control. Next article were responses by doctors and there opinion about study how study were conducted. At first, as I read, participants in study were relatively healthy and rather young. Second, there were no long term study to jump do conclusion. And finally, authors fail to mention that these participants whose sugar level was down, were taken additional med to control sugar.

I wander, is the size of the stomach really can control sugar in blood? How? The size of the stomach can control amount of food I eat, yes it is true. So, when my sugar goes above 300 I would not be able to eat, it is true but only for a while. Stomach has ability to get bigger or smaller depend of amount of food in it. However, when sugar is above 300, I take a lot of water. Water helps to reduce sugar in blood, it is how we deal with any poison: drink a lot of water. Sugar is poison, body tries to get rid of sugar, so diabetics drink a lot of water when we do not control sugar. Now, when my stomach is small and I cannot drink water I need, how body will get rid of sugar?

My another point is nutrition. There are a lot of doctors talk about diet, calories, intake – output. What about Vitamins? DO I have all nutrition and Vitamins with 1600cal.? Last time doctor done blood work there was Vit D deficiency in my blood. Before that Vit D already was under normal. It was down steady and fast. Vit D deficiency is leading to all kind of death. There were no any attention from doctor, but talking about pounds. I try to find out in any diets how many nutrition and vitamins I will get from this diet, and I lost. There are no any attention to nutrition, just calories.

Last point is, why people get diabetes at first place, if sugar so easy to be taken under control with the size of the stomach? There is wide spread opinion that diabetics are overweight. Let us look at when my body started to grow? Why did it started to grow? And if the size of the stomach is so important in control of sugar why sugar went out of control when my stomach was small? It is easily for me to understand that when sugar goes out of control, and body accumulated pounds because of cell starvation. Without of insulin glucose does not enter into cell and cell does not have source of energy, cell is starving. But I am not able to accept that I got diabetes because of my life style. I was rather underweight then overweight when my sugar was high. Because I never was considered of being a diabetic, I never had treatment I needed. I was ill, accumulated pounds, but I still alive.

A Spoonful Of Sugar

Another mediocre photo because of my idle nature and tendency to procrastinate. The subject is due to ANOTHER trip to the doctors surgery to have ANOTHER blood test, this time for my blood glucose tolerance, or something. When I had my last blood test, my blood sugar levels were higher than normal so now they’re freaking out that I might be diabetic. Oh really, I just had the remainder of a pick and mix for breakfast on the day of my blood test (yeah, I didn’t think that one through). So, I had to fast last night, go and have my blood taken, drink a whole bottle of lucozade, wait two hours and then have some more taken. I’ll find out the results in three working days. Joy. So, yeah, anyway, I hate this photo. The focus is awful and just… well, I’m going to stop talking about it now because I hate it.
